Welcome to the WatchBlog

Posted on January 13, 2014
On behalf of everyone at the Government Accountability Office, I would like to welcome you to GAO’s WatchBlog. Increasingly, our audiences are finding out about our reports and other work online, whether through our Twitter or Facebook accounts, links from Flickr or YouTube, or our mobile apps for iOS or Android. This WatchBlog is meant to continue putting our information where our audiences are already spending their time. GAO’s mission is to provide Congress with fact-based, nonpartisan information that can help improve federal government performance and ensure accountability for the benefit of the American people. With a longer format than we have on our other social media platforms, the WatchBlog can provide you, the reader, with more context to help you understand the bottom line. Our posts will:
  • Show how our work is saving federal funds, impacting government operations, and enhancing revenues;
  • Introduce a body of work or an issue area in which we do work;
  • Highlight testimonies and related work;
  • Explain how our work might be relevant to current events and the news;
  • Link you directly to some of our interactive or multimedia work;
  • Note my recent public speeches and testimonies;
  • Provide information to help you “Get to Know GAO”; and
  • Present GAO-generated data.
We believe that a blog is a good way to make our work, which is often complex, more accessible to Congress, the general public, and anyone who has an interest in improved government operations. For this first week, you can expect to see a post every day. After that, our bloggers will be posting twice a week. Thank you for reading GAO’s WatchBlog. If you have any questions or other feedback about the blog, please feel free to e-mail blog@gao.gov. --Gene Dodaro Comptroller General of the United States
About Watchblog

GAO's mission is to provide Congress with fact-based, nonpartisan information that can help improve federal government performance and ensure accountability for the benefit of the American people. GAO launched its WatchBlog in January, 2014, as part of its continuing effort to reach its audiences—Congress and the American people—where they are currently looking for information.

The blog format allows GAO to provide a little more context about its work than it can offer on its other social media platforms. Posts will tie GAO work to current events and the news; show how GAO’s work is affecting agencies or legislation; highlight reports, testimonies, and issue areas where GAO does work; and provide information about GAO itself, among other things.

Please send any feedback on GAO's WatchBlog to blog@gao.gov.
