Actions for New Leaders – Our Priorities for Policy Makers App

Posted on January 23, 2017

Donald J. Trump was sworn in as the 45th President of the United States just a few days ago and the 115th Congress took office earlier this month. The new administration and Congress are taking shape, and will soon begin the tough task of leading the nation.

Where might these policymakers—legislative, executive, old, and new—look to start?

We suggest they check out our “Priorities for Policy Makers” app—available free on the App Store® or Google Play™.

Our app helps users quickly find our priority recommendations—those that offer an immediate opportunity to save money and improve government operations across almost every major agency.

Shortly after the election last November, Comptroller General Gene Dodaro discussed our new app, and the other resources we’ve made available for the nation’s leaders. Watch what he had to say:

GAO: GAO's Transition Resources

Tackling the federal government’s biggest issues

With our app, busy leaders can learn about some of the biggest problems facing the nation—and how to fix them—on the go. And the public can find out what leaders should focus on so they can be held accountable.

But the app is only one of the resources we’ve made available to leaders and the public. We have an entire section of our website dedicated to the 2017 transition.

Our transition pages provide information from our High Risk list that calls attention to agencies and programs particularly vulnerable to fraud, waste, abuse, and mismanagement—or in need of total transformation, such as VA health care. We outline why areas are on the list and, more importantly, what needs to be done to get off of it. We update this list at the start of each new Congress and will do so again next month.

We also have a section on Key Issues. If you’re looking to quickly get up to speed on a broad area, such as information security or tax policy, you can explore our Key Issues by topic or agency.

And lastly, you’ll want to check out our Management Agenda if you’re interested in the most critical management challenges facing the federal government—including the need to strengthen cybersecurity and improve the nation’s long-term fiscal condition. The Agenda lays out broad problems, and provides specific solutions.

Whether you’re new to the Hill, preparing to join an agency, or just a concerned citizen, our free app has got you covered. Download it today.
